R-E-S-P-E-C-T Just a little bit;
Jermain Taylor deserves more than he gets

No chance.  Essentially that is what
former Middleweight champion Jermain
Taylor has been given in his rematch
against current top dog Kelly Pavlik.
Since besting future Hall of Famer
Bernard Hopkins twice and fighting
Winky Wright to a draw Taylor has seen
his stock plummet.  Fairly or not Taylor
has faced plenty of criticism.

What a fight!  Fans saw straight up
action from start to finish.  Paul Williams
was punished early by Carlos Quintana
power shots before settling down and
out boxing the determined Quintana
during the middle rounds.  Just when it
appeared that Quintana may be fading,
under the pressure of the long
armed champion, he proceeded to
pound left hooks into Williams’ brow.
Quintana opened up cuts over both of
Williams’ eyes and Quintana
persistently targeted them.

Andre Berto stops Michel Trabant;
Unbeaten Berto makes Trabant
quit on his stool
By: Phil Santos – Overhandright.com
Andre Berto continues to impress by
stopping Michel Trabant.  Trabant, who
had never been stopped, quit on his
stool following the conclusion of round
six.  Berto snapped off nasty body shots
and stinging jabs throughout all six
rounds befuddling Trabant who
consistently failed to let his hands go.
The punctuation of Berto’s attack
came in the 3rd round when Berto
scored numerous vicious uppercuts.

Taylor carried the speed advantage with

more consistent pressure and a rock

identical fight to his first meeting with
Taylor and although the knockout didn’t

the best promoters and businessmen in

Promotions continues to land big stars,
most recently inking Ricky Hatton,

He is and has been a global figure with
influence and money making
opportunities that reach far beyond the

Brian Vera stops hot prospect Andy Lee

It looked as though all three undefeated
fighters who highlighted ESPN2’s Friday
Night Fights March 21st card would
improve their records and remain
flawless. That was until Brian Vera
scored the biggest upset of the series

All the hype surrounding the Main Event

Hatton-Malignaggi on the horizon?
“Ricky and I have a lot in common. Both
our fathers were soccer players – his in
England and mine in Italy – and we’ve
both paid our dues and earned the
respect of the fans and other fighters.
The only marks on our records came
against two great fighters, Mayweather
and Cotto.  What makes it so exciting is
the big difference in our fighting styles.

Ricky is rough and tough; an all-action
fighter who takes advantage of
everything he can to get the win.  You’re
never going to see a Hatton fight that
doesn’t keep you on the edge of your
seat.  Most of my fights have been
boxing matches.  The excitement was
dictated by how aggressive the other guy
wanted to be. If they brought it, they got it
back times 10.  I know I’m at the top of
my game right now and that’s what it
takes to have a chance against a great
champion like Ricky Hatton.”

The definition of prizefighting is simple; a
match fought between professional fighters
for money.  Fortunately, Floyd “Money”
Mayweather, the best Pound-for-Pound (P4P)
fighter in the sport, understands the meaning.
Lately, critics have attacked Mayweather for
his decision to appear in Wrestlemania to
face the behemoth known as “Big Show.” My
question is, why not? What’s wrong with a
professional boxer having some fun and
making some money courtesy of World
In Defense of “Money” Mayweather:
A True Prizefighter
By: Michael Herron (M.I.C.)
Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)? There are fighters who go life and death in
the ring, the Vasquez –Marquez trilogy for instance, yet receive pennies in
comparison to “Money May.” Before you rattle on about how much you admire
Marquez and Vasquez, be reminded that neither of them are considered P4P
#1, neither is making millions, and neither have three potential  mega-million
dollar fights lined up in the near future.

So what is the root of the problem? Some writers/critics have suggested that he
is avoiding Miguel Cotto; and that if he would just fight Cotto everything would
be fine.  I find the Cotto demand to be quite humorous. Mayweather is sitting at
the top of the mountain; why should he spend his days worried about Cotto?
“Money” does not need Cotto; Cotto needs “Money.” Mayweather stated on
ESPN’s Friday Night Fight’s, “I’ll fight these guys when I get ready.” These are
the words of a prizefighter who is in control of his own destiny.  The ultimate
goal of every prizefighter is to be in control of their own destiny, why detest
Mayweather for being in control of his?

CALVIN BROCK TO DELAY RING RETURN
UNTIL RETINA HEALS
TOTOWA, NJ (March 25, 2008) – In
December 2007 heavyweight contender
Calvin Brock underwent surgery to repair
retinal damage in his right eye.  In
response to questions from the media
and fans about his return to the ring,
Brock has released this statement:

“I have been asked by members of the
media and by boxing fans when I will
return to the ring,” said Brock.  “Recently
I underwent surgery to fix damage in the
retina of my right eye and I am waiting for
the damage to heal.  I plan to return to
the ring once my eye is 100%.  Until then
I will rest and do what is necessary to
help my eye repair.”
His name still holds weight.  He was once a
solid champion who possessed three World
Titles (WBC, WBA & IBF) and was widely
considered to be the best Welterweight on the
planet.  Those days seem like a distant
memory.  Since losing to Carlos Baldomir the
once “Super” Zab Judah has been recast as a
marquee name no longer capable of beating the
top fighters in his weight class.

Much like the man he accompanied to the ring
as a youngster Judah’s future as a fighter
seems to closely mirror that of Mike Tyson.  Now
before I get too far ahead of myself I want to
make myself clear.  It is my opinion that Zab is

still a solid top ten Welterweight, a claim that at the end could not be made by
Iron Mike.  It is also apparent that Judah wishes to continue fighting and badly
wants to reestablish himself as an elite fighter, another assertion that doesn’t
jive with the end of Tyson’s career.  In those ways they are different.
