| Both boxing fans and the press who cover the game have been treated this year to some epic showdowns. We’ve seen the fights that need to happen come to fruition: Vazquez/Marquez (twice), Miranda/Pavlik, Pavlik/Taylor, Calzaghe/Kessler, Diaz/Freitas, Hopkins/Wright, Pacquiao/Barrera, and we still have Mayweather/Hatton to cap the year off, all in all a great year for the sweet science. The problem that remains is the sports, at times, lack of integrity. Bogus decisions, (see Casamayor vs Santa Cruz), and sanctioning bodies refusing to stick to their decisions regarding mandatory challengers to their titles. We saw it with the circus that was Sam Peter and his camp dealing with the WBC, now the latest victim appears to be Hartford, Connecticut’s undefeated IBO Super Bantamweight Champion Mike Oliver. | Edison Miranda Exclusive Interview Interview By: Phil Santos - Overhandright.com 2-4-07 |
Edison: When I came to the US 2 years ago, I knew I was special. At that point I was 21-0 with 21 ko's. I felt good in the ring and I knew I was only getting better with each day of training. This is still true today. I am a much better boxer now than I was against Eastman. Back then, I guess I always knew what my natural skills were and that I was getting better each day. When I watched all the middleweights like Hopkins, Taylor, and Wright, I knew I could beat each of them. That's when I knew I should be considered among the elite fighters. But, I guess the press needed to wait a little. Read the Full Interview.....
Berto: I’ve still got a ways to go. That’s the way I feel. I mean, I’m not really sure. You know, I am working my way up and I don’t think I can give myself a rating right now. I’m working my way up. You know, last year was like my rookie season. So this year I really get to taste some of the field, you know. So I am not going to give myself a rating right now. I’m going to still work my way up and hopefully by the end of 2007 people can rate me a little bit. Read the Full Interview.....
Big George: Boxing goes through this from time, to time; Joe Louis left boxing and all thought it was dead; there was not much noise, (Marciano retired just when he could have made big noise) until Ali came on the scene. But when he came back the second time; we had a sport again. Then it dies again, until Mike Tyson came to the sport. But his bad ways really hurt the sport a bit. But we can expect some good fighter in the future; fighters that will bring the sport back to rightful place in the world of sports. Read the Full Interview.....
| Michael: Listen I’m not deaf. I hear the television when they talk about the greatest boxers of all time. My name is not mentioned. People seem to forget that I gave up my Light Heavyweight belt to move up to the Heavyweight division. I have to prove that if you ask anybody, even yourself doing the interview if you had to bet will Michael Moorer be able to win the Heavyweight title the answer around the country would be no. This really is to get me the belt and to retire with the belt. Unless someone makes me an offer of 20 million or above to fight again, I’m going to retire with the belt. | Pantera: The knockdown was nothing for me...I was a bit off balance and he caught me. All it did was get me angrier as you could see. When I get hit, my natural reaction is to come back stronger just the way Tito used to do it when he went down. I wanted to show not only him but the fans in Puerto Rico and the fans watching on HBO who the boss is. So I turned it up a notch even though I had an easy win. I wanted to give the fans their money worth. I went to destroy him in the 9th and 10th and that's exactly what I did. Read the Full Interview..... |
"Ice Man" John Scully Exclusive Interview Interview By: Phil Santos - Overhandright.com 11-12-07
ICE: We have not heard anything at all to tell you the truth. Since July we have been looking to Molitor because we are #2 and there is no one ranked above us. You know, he was an unknown and still is really when he got a shot at a vacant title against Hunter. Now you listen to him talk and you get the impression he thinks he is on the level of Oscar and Floyd, you know? I have news for him, though. He is still climbing the ladder like we are and just like he got his shot he needs to give us ours. Read the Full Interview.....
| ICE: You can look great and calm and relaxed in there, that's fine, but sometimes you need to dig down and show some anger, some determination, some drive, some spirit and emotions and to illustrate that for him I explained to him how as great and smooth as Sugar Ray Leonard was, when crunch time came against Tommy Hearns in the 1981 fight that he was losing going into the 14th, it was wild and furious overhand rights and lefts and not classic, text book combinations that initially got Tommy hurt and set him up for the KO. | Shields: Well we’re going over there to win the heavyweight title and they can overlook us if they want but if they do they’re gonna get knocked out early. Everybody keeps saying that Evander’s over, but the old man keeps ticking and keeps winning. He’s been working real hard and I’ll tell you that they (Sultan’s camp) made a mistake and should’ ve fought Evander two or three fights ago. Read the Full Interview..... |

Rocky Juarez Exclusive Interview Interview By: John Martinez - Boxingrealm.com 10-19-07
Rocky: In my first fight with Barrera, people say that I won. In the second one, he chose to fight an intelligent fight and not stand in there. So I think with Marquez, he is probably going to do the same thing as Barrera did, but as the fight goes on, he’s going to want to prove to himself and the fans that he can stand toe to toe and brawl. He has got more Mexican in him that makes him want to fight and that’s what is going to come out and make it great on November 3rd. We’re both punchers and you’re going to see something great November 3rd. Read the Full Interview.....
Ronnie Shields Exclusive Interview Interview By: John Martinez - Boxingrealm.com 11-5-07
Shields: It was the cut that changed the fight. Rock told me that after getting the cut and hearing everyone saying how bad it was, he started thinking about the cut and he couldn’t think about throwing combinations only boxing. The blood really started going into his eye and he lost focus. I did think that Ray did a good job with working the eye though, but I tell you that I know Rock could’ve done a lot more had he not had that cut. Read the Full Interview.....
Leonard Ellerbe Exclusive Interview Interview By: John Martinez - Boxingrealm.com 11-19-07
Ellerbe: I will tell you this fight isn’t going 12 rounds. Period. This fight is country versus country. And I think there is a lot of genuine bad blood between these two fighters and they are going to get the chance to settle that come December 8th. This fight is the biggest fight that Hatton has ever been in. For Floyd, all he is going to do is be himself and that is the six-time world champion in five different weight classes and undefeated in eight years. Whatever Hatton attempts to do, it won’t be good enough. Read the Full Interview.....
Willie Savannah Exclusive Interview Interview By: John Martinez - Boxingrealm.com 1-14-08
Savannah: Well Don King did not deal in good faith with us. He did absolutely nothing to make this fight happen. It isn’t Juan’s fault or my fault as to why we can’t fight Katsidis, it was Don that didn’t deal with us or Katsidis in good faith. I heard that Katsidis is suing Don. Then HBO pulled the plug because they got nervous that Don was going to sue them even though it was HBO that said they wanted the fight in the first place. Read the Full Interview.....

Sultan Ibragimov Exclusive Interview Interview By: John Martinez - Boxingrealm.com 9-25-07
Sultan: Well Boris can talk all he wants because he likes to talk and he is not the one in the ring. I am the fighter. I am the one that has to get in the ring. I don’t like to look past my next fights. I want to only think about Holyfield right now and after this fight, we will talk about the other opponents. I don’t talk too much like Boris. Boris likes to talk too much. Read the Full Interview.....
Edison Miranda Exclusive Interview Interview By: Phil Santos - Overhandright.com 1-16-08
Miranda: I watched the last Lacy fight and was not impressed at all. I also watched the Contender and my feeling was the same about Bika. These guys are simply not at my level. If I need to fight them to prove it, I will. But I want to face the best in the Super Middleweight division and these two guys certainly are not the best. Read the Full Interview.....

John Scully Exclusive Interview Interview By: Phil Santos - Overhandright.com 1-24-08
| ICE: In my opinion, the only way that boxing could possibly be brought back to the top of the food chain would be to get it back on network weekend TV for free. Take guys like John Duddy, Andy Lee and the Peterson brothers, Anthony and Lamont, for example, they have all gotten to be known to serious boxing fans through ESPN cards and the like but none of them are really extremely known to the casual boxing fan I don't think. If this was back in the late 1980's, though, they would all be featured every three months on free TV to millions of people across the country and the buzz would be so big.
