| Holyfield quotes from his press conf yesterday to announce June 30 PPV event against Lou Savarese On Lou Savarese as an opponent: “I usually don’t like fighting guys with Lou’ s style. I like guys who are aggressive. But the champions now pretty much fight the way Lou fights so that’s why I chose him.” About continuing his quest for a fight world heavyweight championship: “I work harder at the gym than the young guys. If I didn’t believe I could do it, I wouldn’t try. It’s just like my momma told me when I was young. You have to know how to finish. You may not have control over where you start, but you can control how you finish. I want to win the undisputed heavyweight championship and then let the young guys take over.” Click Here for More Boxing News..... |
| LORENZO: “PAVLIK AND ME WOULD BE A WAR” NEW YORK, NY (May 24, 2007) – World Middleweight Champion Jermain Taylor remains on the top of undefeated middleweight contender Giovanni Lorenzo’s wish list, but there is another fighter that he would like to challenge: Kelly Pavlik. “I was very impressed by Pavlik’s win over Miranda,” said Lorenzo. “Miranda talked a lot before the fight, but he didn’t deliver. He cared more about Taylor than the guy he had in front of him and Pavlik beat him at his own game. I think me and Pavlik would be bombs away from the opening bell. "The fact is that Taylor really isn't interested in fighting middleweights, only built up welterweights. He'll do to Pavlik what he has done to me and that's say he wants to fight us then he'll avoid us . . . especially after his last performance. So it makes logical sense for the two best top 5 rated undefeated middleweights to fight each other for the Peoples’ World Championship. I know HBO would like that fight." Lorenzo returns to the ring on June 2 in an off-TV bout against Sterling , IL native Bruce Rumbolz (21-12-2, 15 KO’s) in an 8/10 round middleweight bout. Lorenzo is 23-0, 15 KO’s and has knocked out nine of his last 10 opponents. He is ranked #5 by the WBC and #8 by the IBF. |

| WORLD BOXING COUNCIL NEWS May 31, 2007 From the Bangkok Post, by Edward Thangarajah. THE TOAST OF WORLD SPORTS When the International Boxing Hall of Fame decided to induct Dr. Jose Sulaiman this year, I said that they were 15 years behind time. I told my boxing friends and scribes that they should have done it when Dr. Sulaiman stood boldly and took many decisions which helped promote and foster the magnificent poor man’s sport of boxing. The dozens of fighters from all walks of life, from shoeshine boys to those who used to wander in the streets, engaged in crime and unhappy episodes -- who are leading happy lives owe everything to GOD and to his able lieutenant on earth -- the man whom he handpicked to serve him on earth, that’s Dr. Jose Sulaiman. After Grinberg answered a few questions, the eagle-eared Lichtenfeld remarked, “Sultan, you sound just like your manager Boris Grinberg.” The guest replied, “Well, maybe because I was running today.” Lichtenfeld playfully put Sultan/Boris on the hot seat, trying to get him to admit his identity. After the host cut the interview short moments later, he laughed as he told his listeners about the ruse. “I’ve known Boris for a few years and spoke to him three times this week, including twice today,” Lichtenfeld said, “I knew it was him right away.” Click Here for More Boxing News..... |

But first, “The Atomic Bull” has to get by rugged battler Sinan Samil Sam (27-3, 15 KOs) on Saturday, June 16th at the Ataturk Spor Salonu in Ankara , Turkey for the WBC International Heavyweight Title. “This is going to be a great night for me,” said the 42-year old McCall, one of only two men to knockout future Hall of Famer Lennox Lewis. “You’re putting “The Atomic Bull” in Turkey , and when Sam tastes my power he’ll be running like a chicken.” McCall (50-8, 36 KOs ) has proven himself over the course of over 20 years as one of the premier heavyweights of this era. Owner of the WBC world heavyweight title from 1994 to 1995, the Chicago native owns wins over Lewis, Larry Holmes, and Frank Bruno, and has also defeated current WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev via a first round TKO. | Malignaggi setting trap for "Black Panther" BROOKLYN (June 6, 2007) - Outspoken boxer Paulie "The Magic Man" Malignaggi has been relatively quiet, at least for him, as he prepares for his June 16th title challenge against IBF junior welterweight champion Lovemore "Black Panther" Ndou on HBO BAD at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Malignaggi (23-1, 5 KOs) recently returned home to New York City, working out at famed Gleason's Gym, after several weeks of intensive training and sparring in Vero Beach (FL) under the guidance of his trainer James "Buddy" McGirt. "The Magic Man" has a message for the trash-talking Ndou, who thus far has spouted more verbal venom than Malignaggi. "His only job is to bring my belt to Connecticut," Malignaggi said. "I haven't been talking as much because I've been getting better focused for this fight than any in my career. I talk because I'm scared? Let him feel that way but there's no fear in Paulie Malignaggi. What's he been saying? If he thinks talking is out of fear, than he must be real scared. We both talk a lot but he's been doing more of the talking for this fight. I've been getting prepared. | COURT DISMISSES CLAIMS BY BOSTICK AGAINST MAIN EVENTS The Honorable Harriett Klein, Chancery Division Judge sitting in Newark , New Jersey , has dismissed claims of tortious interference brought by Bobby Bostick Promotions against Main Events. Judge Klein ruled that the actions alleged by Bostick to have been taken by Main Events with respect to IBF Welterweight Champion Kermit Cintron were “absolutely privileged” and dismissed Bostick’s complaint against Main Events “in its entirety.” Bostick had claimed in the litigation that Main Events had interfered with Bostick’s alleged contract rights to Cintron by sending a pre-litigation letter and claiming in a complaint filed with the Court that Bostick had interfered with its pre-existing contract rights. Cintron is, in turn, suing Bostick claiming, among other things, that Bostick breached its obligation to him and did not pay him substantial monies claimed due. |
