Steeds returns at Cruiser on Seni

Mickey Steeds is confident that reinventing himself at cruiserweight will
lead to bigger and better things.  The Isle of Dogs boxer has competed at
heavy throughout his career, but makes his debut in the lighter division on
the Hennessy Sports ‘SENI:BOX’ promotion at ExCeL London in Docklands
this Friday.

Despite notching up 11 wins and only suffering two defeats in the unlimited
division - both to Scott Gammer, one for the British Title – the 23-year-old
feels that his best form lies ahead. He debuts against Doncaster’s useful
John Anthony, 5(3)-5.

“I wasn’t as serious at training before like I am now,” explained Steeds,
whose girlfriend gave birth to a baby girl (Kessie) last week. “I have
changed a few things and got a nutritionist on board. The weight just
started to fly off.

Walker returns at welterweight

David ‘Kid Dynamite’ Walker believes he can still be a force to be reckoned
with as he makes his comeback at welterweight on the Hennessy Sports
‘SENI:BOX’ event at ExCeL London in Docklands on Friday, May 18th.

The Hennessy Sports boxer was last in action against Manchester’s Jamie
Moore in a fourth round stoppage loss for the British Light-middleweight
Title in September 2005.

But Walker is returning a division down and is refreshed after his break
from the sport. The former two-weight Southern Area champion and
European Title challenger is now eager to convince promoter Mick
Hennessy and trainer Rob McCracken that he will soon be ready to fight for
another championship.

“I had my first amateur fight in 1987 so I have been boxing 20 years now,”
said Walker. “Until this break I’ve had, I’ve not had a rest from the sport at all
and kept very busy.

Spartacus and Oakey headline SENI:BOX

Hennessy Sports are bringing their hallmark brand of competitive
championship boxing to the ‘seni07 Combat Sports Show’ at ExCeL London
in Docklands with ‘SENI:BOX,’ the launch event of the three-day showcase of
Combat Sports, Martial Arts and Extreme Fitness that debuts in the Capital.

Fittingly, the bill on May 18th will feature a raft of local talent in addition to the
headline clash between Ipswich’s Steve Spartacus and Portsmouth’s Tony
Oakey for the vacant British Light Heavyweight Title.

The intention had been for Morden’s Lenny Daws to top the bill in a
Championship affair. A match with Chad Brisson for the Commonwealth Title
had been made, but despite initially indicating he wanted the fight, the
Canadian became the first in a long line of potential opponents to turn down
the opportunity to fight ‘Lightning.’

his record to 6-0 with a bout against Worcester's Steven Cooper who is a
better boxer than his moderate record suggests. Only two weeks ago
Cooper gave Newark's A.A Lowe a good six round workout before going
down to a 59-56 defeat.

Shelton super-bantamweight Imran Khan exploded onto the pro scene at
King's Hall back in November when he needed less than a round to knockout
fellow first timer Sammy Stewart, an impressive feat, especially as he had
to recover from a flash knockdown by the Leeds boxer in the opening
seconds.

Trainer Robert McCracken and promoter Mick Hennessy still believe that

Whilst the tough Mexican did stop O’Donnell in the second round, many

While covering Juan Diaz vs Acelino Freitas at Foxwoods Casino I got a
chance to show Lightweight Champion of the World Joel Casamayor my iron
fists.  If you can't tell by his facial expression he was very intimidated.

Diaz won the fight via TKO when Freitas refused to answer the bell for the
start of the 8th round.  Casamayor is widely considered the best in the
division, as well as one of the best pound for pound fighters in the game.  A
match-up between Casamayor and Diaz would be the best fight out there for
fans and for boxing.

Oliver-Torres headlines "Battle Zone 3" Friday
night at Mohegan Sun

SANDWICH, Massachusetts (May 1, 2007) - Veteran light heavyweight
Rodney Toney has a famous last name, several disappointing outcomes
against world-class opponents, and a master's degree in boxing experience
from his 14-year pro career. Friday night in a rematch against Anthony "The
Rowdy One" Russell, Toney starts what will likely be his final run towards a
high-profile fight and lucrative payday.

Undefeated USBA super bantamweight champion "Machine Gun" Mike
Oliver headlines "Battle Zone 3" in a 10-round non-title fight against Vernie
Torres on Friday evening (May 4) at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville,

The 10-round co-feature is a rematch between 39-year-old Toney, cousin of
future Hall of Fame boxer James Toney, and former Canadian Under-19
amateur champion Russell for the vacant IBA Americas light heavyweight
title belt. Boston-native Toney (29-5-5, 17 KOs), rated No. 36 by the WBC, won
a unanimous 10-round decision from the Canadian-born Russell (15-2-1, 4
KOs) last October.

Froch undergoes successful surgery

British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion Carl Froch has
gone under the knife to rectify a long-term ligament problem after WBO
champion Joe Calzaghe refused a £1.6 million offer to defend against him on
a Hennessy Sports event this summer.

The undefeated 29-year-old, who should shortly find himself in the WBC #1
position, first damaged his right knee around four years ago in training. A
scan at the time revealed that the anterior cruciate ligament was only
partially torn and would in all likelihood heal sufficiently naturally, so after a
short rest he went on with the business of storming through the 168lb ranks.

The Cobra’ however, has remained under ongoing observation after being
advised that the ligament remained a potential weak-point and that through
continued use the injury could re-occur at some point in the future if not
corrected with surgery.
