Everybody was so supportive. I can’t compare fighting at Madison Square Garden and in Ireland. I’m looking forward to hopefully experience more at both places. “The people in New York City don’t really know me but they’ve watched and supported me. Back home they know me and I was glad to see people who’ve know me since I was a boy - friends, neighbors and teachers. Before they had great respect for me and now the same people are asking for my autograph. I had a ball.” Read the Full Story..... |
| Impact Boxing Gains Momentum Keith Chadwick reviews an eventful season for Impact boxers As the season draws to a close all concerned with Impact Boxing can be justifiably satisfied with the progress that the embryonic stable has made over the last twelve months. The highlight of the season has to be the emergence of Chris Edwards as force to be reckoned with. The season began with Scott Lawton and Gary Reid as the big guns of the Impact set up but last November Edwards pulled off one of the shocks of the season by seeing off former Commonwealth champion Dale Robinson inside 8 rounds to lift the English flyweight title. Until that point Robinson had never previously been stopped. In April Edwards and Robinson faced off again; this time in a British and Commonwealth title clash at Altrincham Leisure centre. Robinson had the better of the earlier rounds but Edwards grew in strength and confidence as the bout progressed. By the final bell both pugilists were battered and each was cut above both eyes; they had produced scintillating contest and earned a standing ovation from the crowd. Read the Full Story..... |

| LEWKOWICZ DECLARES UNEQUIVOCALLY: “THERE WAS NO STEP ASIDE MONEY.” John Martinez - Boxing Realm (03AUG07) In my earlier interview with world renowned Sampson Lewkowicz, advisor and international match maker to a list of pugilists, including the WBO heavyweight champion Sultan Ibragimov, he offered insight into the how and why the clash between the current champ and former four time heavyweight champion of the world Evander Holyfield is taking place later this year. Upon reading some of the discussions that some fans were having in certain boxing chat forums as to the alleged “ step aside” incentive that might have been offered to WBA Ruslan Chagaev in order to make this fight with Holyfield, Lewkowicz and I spoke and he asked me to be his “ messenger to the world” on this issue and wanted to lay those rumors to rest once and for all. I of course accepted his request because for one, I do not believe whatsoever that such a transaction took place and two, Lewkowicz very rarely speaks directly to the press. | TAYLOR - PAVLIK : THE PRE-PREFIGHT FEATURE Article By: Jim Amato September 29th, 2007...Will this be the day that puts Youngstown, Ohio back on the fistic map ? Undefeated knockout artist Kelly " The Ghost " Pavlik of Y'town meets world's middleweight champion Jermain Taylor who is also unbeaten. This is the fight at 160 pounds that the fans wanted to see. Kudos to the management of the fighters and the promoters for putting this together. It reminds me of the old days where a true champion meets the real # 1 challenger. The Calzaghe - Kessler bout at 168 pounds serves the same purpose. Can Kelly take the title from Taylor ? Jermain has been taking it on the chin in the press lately. Admittedly he has not looked good in his recent performances. This has not really been fair to Taylor. The men he has fought, Bernard Hopkins ( twice ), Winky Wright, Kassim Ouma and Cory Spinks are awkward, talented guys who are difficult to look good against. They are all champions or former champions, real top shelf opposition. If nothing else I believe they made Taylor a better fighter. When Angelo Dundee had Clay / Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard he matched them with all kinds of different styles so when they entered the ring there was not much that they had not seen. Let's just say Taylor may look boring but he is well schooled. Read the Full Story..... |

| SAMPSON LEWKOWICZ CONFIRMS IBRAGIMOV-HOLYFIELD ON OCT.13 FOR WBO HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE JOHN MARTINEZ - BOXINGREALM.COM (03AUG07) Moments ago, I spoke with world class manager to five champions, Sampson Lewkowicz about one of his charges, WBO heavyweight champ Sultan Ibragimov, to confirm the details of the transatlantic showdown on October 13 for Ibragimov’s WBO heavyweight title. Lewkowicz said the fight was agreed to in full in a span of just three hours. Here is what he had to say. JM: Sampson, talk about how this fight came to fruition. SL: Well first of all it was our side that contacted Main Events after we found out that Ruslan Chagaev was not going to make it. It was a very smooth negotiation that in fact only took three hours to complete. JM: What is Sultan’s position on fighting the only four-time heavyweight champion of the world, “ The Real Deal” Evander Holyfield? SL: Well actually, our champion, Sultan, is very disappointed because he cannot comply with his promise that he gave to his fans to unify. However, Holyfield was the only one that was not to be mandatory that deserved a shot at the title. So, I contacted Pat English from Main Events and the deal was closed within three hours. | NEW YORK (August 5, 2007) – La Venganza! It was vengeance, vindication and redemption for a jubilant Israel Vazquez Saturday night on SHOWTIME. Vazquez stopped Rafael Marquez in a rematch to regain the World Boxing Council (WBC) Super Bantamweight world title that he lost to Marquez earlier this year at 1:16 of the sixth round in an old-school, classic and bloody slugfest. The main event of the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast from the Dodge Arena in Hidalgo, Texas had everything: tremendous offensive technique; non-stop, two-way action; a touch of controversy; and the contemplation of a third fight. In Saturday’s co-feature, a World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Bantamweight world championship, Celestino Caballero retained his belt by unanimous decision over Jorge Lacierva in another action-packed battle (116- 110, 116-111 and 115-112). | Talk about a cock fight; talk about give and take, talk about a blood fest. This one had it all. Two Mexican warriors, one possessing a lethal straight right; the other owning a chilling left hook. Both skilled. Each action-filled round began with Israel Vazquez, 42-4 starting strong, and then slowing down just a tad as both fighters exchanged on a more even basis in the middle of each stanza. Rafael Marquez, 37-4, seemed to finish the rounds stronger. In between, a bloody and savage battle ensued with both blasting away at an incredible work rate and landing chilling shots to each other ‘s head and body. Both had suffered nasty cuts around their eyes and blood flowed freely. After only four rounds, I asked myself, “how much more can they take?” Finally, when Vazquez rocked Marquez in the fifth with his patented and well- leveraged hook, it became clear (at least to me) that he would not be denied this time around, even though Marquez did finish that round well. Then, in the sixth, Vazquez decked the WBC super bantamweight with another jackhammer hook and the end was now in sight. Read the Full Story..... |

| RAPHAEL MARQUEZ VS ISRAEL VAZQUEZ II Article By: Ted Sares |
| (05AUG07) In last night’s battle for the WBC super bantamweight title, Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez waged a war for the ages. Both men came into this fight supremely confident that this time around the action would be better than their first encounter and it was. Each man was also on record laying claim that he would be the last man standing with the belt around his waist. That man was Israel Vazquez who saw his record improve to 41,4, 31 ko’s with his stoppage in the sixth round over Rafael Marquez, handing Marquez his first loss in seven years. From the start, Vazquez was determined to press the action and force Marquez on his heels with a committed attack to the body and a concerted effort to stay in Marquez’s chest behind a quick jab and his daunting left hook. For Marquez, he relied on his powerful right keep Vazquez honest; however, that didn’t work very well. Vazquez was undeterred by this tactic and continued to dictate the pace and terms of their clash behind his intense desire to fight this fight in the trenches. Read the Full Story..... |

From the opening bell, Wills came out attacking with ferocity pushing Johnson back to the ropes with the hopes of taking away Johnson’s key weapon—the jab. What happened afterwards had everyone in attendance doing “oohs and ahhs”.
