MANNY PACQUIAO AND SAM PETER
SCORE UD VICTORIES
Article By: Phil Santos

Heavyweight heavy-hitter Samuel Peter found himself
on the wrong end of some vicious Jameel McCline
uppercuts.  The newly crowned WBC interim
Heavyweight Champion landed on the canvas not
once, not twice, but three times over the corse of
rounds two and three.

Peter managed to hang on and demonstrated the
heart of a champion by controlling the action for the
remainder of the fight.  The Overhandright.com
Scorecard read 113-112 in favor of Sam Peter.

The official scores read 115-110, 115-111, 113-112.
Peter improves to 29-1 (22) and continues to rack up
quality wins, his last three coming against McCline
and James Toney twice.

In an eagerly anticipated rematch Manny Pacquiao did
what most experts were predicting by winning by a
wide margin.  While there was talk of a Pacquiao KO
it should have come as no surprise that Barrera came to fight and to his credit
he fought well in spots.  Pacquiao continues to destroy everything in his path, a
path that undoubtably will land the ferocious 130 pounder in Canasota.

Since his first victory over Barrera (TKO 11th) Pacquiao has garnered victories
over Erik Morales (Pacquiao won two out of their three fights in an excellent
trilogy, his loss came by UD and his wins came by TKO and KO), Oscar Larios
whom he fought to a UD, Fahsan 3K Battery (TKO in 4), Jorge Solis (TKO  in 8),
Hector Velazquez (TKO in 6), and now another decisive win over Barrera.

The only fight over that span not ending in a Pac man victory was a hard fought
draw with Juan Manuel Marquez, a matchup that now seems to make the most
sense for both fighters with Marquez also coming off a win over Barrera.

Manny Pacquiao improves to 45-3-2 (35) and remains one of the most exciting,
talented, and dangerous fighters in the world.  Pound for Pound its gotta b

MARQUEZ WANTS PAVLIK NOW, AND HE’LL GO TO
YOUNGSTOWN TO DO IT

HOLLYWOOD, FL, October 8 – Former world junior middleweight champion
and current top ten rated middleweight contender Raul Marquez has gotten into
the title mix at 160 pounds the old-fashioned way – he earned it – and now he
wants to step into the ring as soon as possible with new champion Kelly Pavlik
to determine once and for all who the best middleweight in the world is.

“I want to congratulate Kelly Pavlik on his big win over Jermain Taylor, and I
respect his attitude of being willing to fight all comers,” said Marquez, winner of
five consecutive bouts, all by knockout.  “Hopefully he’ll live up to those claims
by fighting a true contender like me, and not one of the rookies out there like
Sergio Mora or John Duddy.  I respect those kids, but they’ve never fought any
contenders, they don’t have the resume to deserve a title shot like I do, and they
don’t even want to fight me.  If Kelly Pavlik wants to fight the best available
contender, that’s me.

Maccarinelli Talking While Wilson Waits
WBO Champion talking tough, but hesitating at the prospect of facing red hot
“Ding-a-Ling Man”

WBO Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Maccarinelli (27-1, 20 KOs) has
responded to the public challenge of KO artist Darnell “Ding-a-Ling Man”
Wilson (22-5, 19 KOs).

Wilson and his co-promoters, Dino Duva of Duva Boxing and Sal Musumeci of
Final Forum, issued a release last week, daring opponent-shopping
Maccarinelli to face him on the November 3 Calzaghe vs. Kessler undercard at
Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

In a sharply worded story in the South Wales Evening Post that begins “Wbo
cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli has responded to loudmouth
Darnell Wilson's criticism by labelling the American one dimensional and one-
paced.” Maccarinelli goes on to question Wilson’s worth as a challenger and
points out his five career losses.

“Who the hell has he ever beaten?” asked an annoyed Duva. “Outside of a
decision over Wayne Braithwaite, his opponent list is like a graveyard.

DUVA BOXING’S SAMUEL “THE NIGERIAN
NIGHTMARE” PETER SHOWS “HEART OF A
CHAMPION” IN VICTORY OVER JAMEEL MCCLINE AT
MADISON SQUARE GARDEN
***With the Heart and Power of a Lion, Peter will bring back glory and
excitement to the Heavyweight Division***

“You watched the beginning of a new era, the Sam Peter era…”

New York, October 9—“Samuel Peter has the heart of a champion, great
fighters have the heart to win when they are down,” said Dino Duva, promoter of
the WBC interim Heavyweight Champion following his fight at Madison Square
Garden on Saturday night.

Peter, the knockout artist known as the Nigerian Nightmare, was having a
nightmare of his own, when challenger Jameel McCline knocked him to the
canvas late in the second round, and several times in the third. But Peter rose
from the canvas, dusted himself off, and proceeded to dominate McCline the
rest of the way.

Add to the mix that Peter had badly injured his left hand during training camp,
and you have an even more impressive performance. “Sam, with a champion’s
heart, went through with the fight in spite of the injury, unlike several champions
who have pulled out of major fights recently,” said Duva.

“Sam’s not at his full potential yet, not even close,” said Duva. “You witnessed
the beginning of a new era in the heavyweight division, the Sam Peter era, a
new era of excitement and explosion in the heavyweight division. Sam’s an
exciting slugger and brawler, who loves to mix it up. It’s a style that the fans and
television love. His style will have fans flocking back to the heavyweight
division.”

JUAREZ FOR THE WORLD SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT
TITLE AT DESERT DIAMOND CASINO
World Champion Robert Guerrero Takes on Martin Honorio
for Featherweight Title
Unprecedented Night of Boxing will Air Live on
SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING

Tucson, Arizona (October 3, 2007) – Golden Boy Promotions is bringing one of
the most highly anticipated fights of the year to Southern Arizona.  Juan Manuel
Marquez will face Ricardo Rocky Juarez for the World Super Featherweight
Championship on Saturday, November 3rd at Desert Diamond Casino.  The
touted battle of super featherweights will headline the SHOWTIME
CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast.  The co-main event will be for the World
Featherweight Title as Robert Guerrero puts his belt on the line against Martin
Honorio.

Mexico City’s Juan Manuel Marquez (47-3-1, 35 KOs) captured his second
world championship and launched himself back into the upper reaches of the
pound-for-pound list with a thrilling victory over the legendary Marco Antonio
Barrera on March 17, 2007.  Marquez, one of the best technicians of this era, is
also known for his warrior heart, which led him to get off the canvas three times
in the first round and battle to a 12-round draw against Manny Pacquiao in their
Fight of the Year candidate in 2004. Houston’s Rocky Juarez (27-3, 19 KOs), a
2000 Olympic Silver medalist for the United States, has also met with great
success in the pro ranks.  Best remembered for his two bout series with Marco
Antonio Barrera, the aggressive Juarez has won two in a row in 2007 and is
eager to make it three by taking Marquez’ world title.

One of the most exciting young champions in the sport today, Robert “The
Ghost” Guerrero (20-1-1, 13 KOs) was considered to be a slick boxer early in

Why The Post Title Patterson Was Better...
Article By: Jim Amato

Poor Floyd Patterson. Everyone loved him but not everyone respected him as a
fighter or champion. You rarely hear his name tossed about when the topic of
all time great heavyweights is brought up. What a shame!

Who is to blame for the heartbreaking oversight ? People tend to forget that
Patterson thrashed Archie Moore much more impressively then Marciano did
the night he became the youngest man ever to win the heavyweight crown . Still
when a " Dream Match " between Marciano and Patterson is talked about, Floyd
is quickly dismissed... Simply put, Rocky had the PUNCH and Floyd did not
have the whiskers.

After the Moore victory, Floyd would make " safe " defenses against  guys like
Pete Rademacher and Tommy " Hurricane " Jackson. Floyd then had his chin
exposed by Ingemar Johansson. To Floyd's credit he became the first
heavyweight champion to regain the title by halting Ingo not once but twice.
Finally Floyd fell to the ham like fists of Charles " Sonny " Liston in one round.
Sonny repeated the one round trick in their return match.

Ruiz waiting on Liakhovich

SAN JUAN (October 9, 2007) – Two-time WBA heavyweight champion John
“The Quietman” Ruiz (41-7-1, 28 KOs) is disappointed that former WBO title-
holder Serguei “White Wolf” Liakhovich (23-2, 14 KOs), rated No. 2 by the WBA,
hasn’t signed a contract to fight him Saturday night in Chicago.

Ruiz’ legal advisor, attorney Anthony Cardinale, noted that the WBA No. 3 rated
Ruiz and Liakhovich first learned about their Oct. 13th fight in mid-September,
negotiations continued for weeks, and both fighters received the revised bout
agreement on October 1.

“We’ve heard that they’re claiming there wasn’t enough time to fight me,” said
Ruiz who signed his contract Oct. 3. “We both learned at the same time and I
signed to fight him. If he doesn’t sign to fight me on Saturday, we will petition
the WBA to drop him from the No. 2 spot and move me up to that position. I also
plan on fighting Saturday in Chicago against Liakhovich, if he signs the contract
or another suitable opponent if he doesn’t.”
Liakhovich Clarifies Situation

WBA #2-rated former WBO Heavyweight Champion Sergei "White Wolf"
Liakhovich (23-2, 14 KOs) and his manager, Ivaylo Gotzev, say they're enraged
at the "weak attempts" being made by former WBA Champ John Ruiz and his
people to discredit Liakhovich's hard-earned reputation.

Responding to a press release issued today, in which Ruiz's legal advisor,
attorney, Anthony Cardinale, tries to paint Liakhovich as a reluctant warrior for
his refusal to face Ruiz this Saturday in Chicago, Gotzev paints a clearer picture
of the situation.

The original offer, until a few days ago, was for two ex-champions to fight each
other without any guarantees that it would be for any kind of improved position
in the rankings. The most we could have won (by facing Ruiz) was to remain
WBA number two. There was nothing to gain other than two ex-champions
fighting off-TV. We are in a position in the rankings to fight for a championship
soon if we don't take any stupid offers like this one."

Gotzev further explains that he has in his possession a letter from the WBA
ordering Team Liakhovich to begin negotiating with former champion Nikolay
Valuev for an elimination fight to determine the #1 contender.

"Nikolay Valuev has made an open statement that he is ready to fight Sergei.
The letter we have orders negotiations between Liakhovich and Valuev or a
purse bid would ordered. The WBA later allowed Valuev to take a tune-up bout
first, with the provision he would face Liakhovich next. And Valuev now he says
he's ready to face Sergei - that's the fight we're angling for and we're confident
the WBA will do the right thing now and enforce their original order."
LOS ANGELES, October 10 – 2000 United States Olympian and Former World
Super Middleweight Champion Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy has accomplished more in
a few short years than most fighters do in an entire career, but Lacy is far from
done in his quest for greatness and will now have Golden Boy Promotions in
his corner to guide him.

“This was the perfect fit for me at this point in my career and I’m excited about
joining the other great fighters on the Golden Boy Promotions team,” said the
30-year-old Lacy, owner of a 22-1 record with 17 knockouts.  “I’m looking
forward to getting back in the ring and showing everyone that I’m one of the
best fighters in the world today.  Most importantly, I want my title back, and I’m
going get it in 2008.”
