Joey Abell won a majority decision over
the previously unbeaten Teke Oruh in
their ten-round Heavyweight bout. The
Main Event was broadcast live from the
Island of St. Lucia on Showtime’s
ShoBox Series and was promoted by
Goosen-Tutor Promotions.

In what was billed as a fight between
two young prospects, the fight itself was
less than entertaining. What it
showcased were two fighters that have
been fed “tomato-can” caliber fighters up
until this fight. It really showed.

Hasim Rahman continued his
comeback with a non-impressive win
over Zuri Lawrence Thursday night. The
fight was the Main Event of Top Rank Inc.’
s “Fight Night” and was broadcast live
from the Sovereign Center in Reading,
Pennsylvania on the Versus Network.

Lawrence was a very late sub for this
fight. He was coming off a win only days
earlier and hadn’t been in the gym. He
was the one that controlled most of the
fight, scoring with his jab and was able
to land several hard rights.

FERNANDO VARGAS:

“I don’t like anything about Mayorga. He

him. He’s a stupid fighter. He doesn’t
get it.

Soto for most of the fight to retain his
WBO Jr. Lightweight Title Saturday from
the Borgata Resort & Casino in Atlantic
City. The show was promoted by Golden

live on HBO’s Boxing After Dark Series.

Joan Guzman used his excellent
counter-punching skills and took
advantage of his much faster hand
speed to control ten out of twelve rounds
(on my scorecard) of this fight to keep

AN INTERVIEW WITH LEONARD
ELLERBE
Interview By: John Martinez -
BoxingRealm.com

(19Nov07) Moments ago, I spoke with
WBC welterweight king Floyd
Mayweather Jr.’s adviser and co-trainer
Mr. Leonard Ellerbe. During the Q&A, he
was quick to dispel any thoughts that
Ricky Hatton will still be standing for the
twelfth and final round. In addition to this
prediction, he had a message that Team
Mayweather hopes to get out regarding
the upcoming Presidential elections.

JM: How do you answer critics that say
this fight isn’t worthy of being telecast on
HBO PPV due to Mayweather’s decisive
edge in height, reach, and all around
skill set?

LE: Well first of all, a fight isn’t won on
paper. That is why the two combatants
have to go into the ring and prove
themselves. Floyd is and has been the
best fighter in the world for a number of
years and December 8 will be no
different.

Chapman Cracks Top 10!

24-year-old heavyweight prospect JD
"The Natural" Chapman (28-0, 25 KOs)
has officially cracked the top 10.

The 6' 6" Arkansas-based power
puncher has moved up to #10 in the
WBO's most recent ratings, in addition to
his #13 WBA and #14 WBC rankings.

Manager Scott Hirsch says he's happy
the world sanctioning bodies have been
paying attention to his slugger's steady
improvement. "JD has looked better in
every successive outing and I'm very
happy the world bodies recognized that."

Hirsch says Chapman will be in a
"significant step-up fight" against a
fellow contender, early next year. "We're
looking at dates in Vegas or Dubai," he
explains. "JD has been bowling over
everyone we put in front of him and we
feel he's ready for prime time as of
today."

In his most recent outing, Chapman
destroyed trialhorse Marcus Rhode in
1:20, dropping him three times with his
electric right hand.

“The Brawl” as it was billed, was yet
another good fight for this very resurgent
year in Professional Boxing. Both
fighters showed a real dislike for each
other for the very long promotional
period. One of the reasons for the delay
was that the fight was at a “catch-weight”
of 166lbs. Ricardo Mayorga had to gain
over twenty pounds. Fernando Vargas
had to lose almost one hundred.

Malignaggi punches back at critics
NEW YORK (November 26, 2007) –
International Boxing Federation light
welterweight champion Paulie “The
Magic Man” Malignaggi, rated No. 2 by
The Ring, believes stylish boxing skills
like his are far less appreciated in today’
s knockout-crazed world of boxing than
it's ever been.

“Pure boxers today aren’t as highly
valued as they should be,” the
outspoken Brooklyn pugilist said from
his Vero Beach (FL) training camp.
“Even all-time great boxers like Willie
Pep and Pernall Whitaker, if they were
boxing today, wouldn’t be as
appreciated. Floyd Mayweather is the
best in the world, maybe ever, but critics
complain because he’s so good that, he
wins so easily and isn’t in wars. Now-a-
days everybody wants to see punching,
not boxing skills, and that’s a shame.

TOTOWA, NJ (November 29, 2007) – IBF Welterweight Champion Kermit
Cintron suffered severe ligament damage to his right hand in his successful
Nov 23 title defense against Jesse Feliciano, it was announced today by Main
Events CEO Kathy Duva.  Reading , PA orthopedic surgeon Dr. R. Scott Cook
has advised Kermit that he should not engage in any boxing matches until
March 1.

Cintron (29-1, 27 KO’s) injured his right hand in the first round of his Nov 23
bout against Feliciano.  Despite the intense pain—which Cintron made evident
when he dropped to the canvas following the bout—the champion battled on for
10 rounds before stopping the granite-chinned Feliciano with a two-fisted
barrage at the 1:53 mark of round 10.

“I’m disappointed that I injured my hand, but I’m going to do whatever the doctor
says because I’m eager to get back into the ring and unify the welterweight
title,” said Cintron.

“Kermit will take the time necessary to heal his hand,” said Duva.  “We will not
run the risk of him entering the ring and injuring his hand further.”

Promoters Art Pelullo/Banner Promotions, River Rock Casino Resort, and West
Coast Promotions will present a sensational fight card on Friday, December
28, 2007, in the River Rock Show Theatre at River Rock Casino Resort, located
at 8811 River Road in Richmond , British Colombia. This event will be the first
telecast of the 2008 boxing season on ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights”.

The heavyweight main event, scheduled for 10 rounds, will feature young,
undefeated prospect Alonzo “Big Zo” Butler, 26-0-1 with 19 knockouts, of
Knoxville, Tennessee, stepping up against his toughest opponent yet -
Dominick “The Southern Disaster” Guinn, 28-5-1 with 19 knockouts, of
Houston, Texas.

There’s a lot at stake for both heavyweights: Butler is trying to prove himself for
the first time at world-class level; Guinn is looking for a win that will lead him
back to his former status as a top contender.

Butler and Guinn both stand six-foot three-inches tall, but come from very
different boxing backgrounds. Now 28 years old, Butler has “learned on the job”
as a pro. He had very little amateur experience - 13 fights by his own count –
but has given impressive performances and made good progress in his seven-
year pro career.

32 year-old Guinn had a tremendous amateur career with over 300 fights that
included gold medals in four U.S. national championships. He also has a
significant advantage over Butler in professional experience, with wins to his
credit against 2000 Olympic gold medalist Audley Harrison and former
contenders Michael Grant and Duncan Dokiwari. Dominick has five losses, but
all were against world-class fighters and all were by decision – two against
world champions James Toney and Sergei Liakhovich, the other three against
top contenders Eddie Chambers, Tony Thompson, and Monte Barrett.

Local heavyweight standout Shane “Shotgun” Andreesen, 9-0 with 5 knockouts,
of Qualicum Beach, B.C., will battle Corey Williams, 7-8-2 with 4 knockouts, of
Torrington, Wyo., in a six-round bout.

With the WBC welterweight title superfight less than a week away, the world's
media have descended upon Las Vegas where reigning champion Floyd
Mayweather and challenger Ricky Hatton have been participating in open
workouts prior to their bout on Saturday, December 8, 2007.

Mayweather, 38-0 (24), is the favorite to retain his WBC 147 lb title as the 30
year old has held the Green Belt in a full five weight classes from super feather
to light middle and is widely recognized as the pound for pound top fighter in
the world today.

Many in the media feel that Mayweather will outclass or even stop Hatton, 43-0
(31), the world light welterweight champion, but the 29 year old Englishman
comes into this clash on the strength of five consecutive victories over reigning
or former world champions and has picked up the backing of promoter Oscar
De la Hoya, himself a legendary WBC champion in three weight classes.

It is with tremendous anticipation that the world of boxing awaits this classic
confrontation and it is expected that the PPV sales figures may top the record
already set by Mayweather vs. De la Hoya earlier this year.

As with all the best fights, fans have drawn themselves into separate camps,
each backing their favorite, be it Mayweather or Hatton, but once the first bell
rings they will all come together in enjoyment of this most intriguing of world
title fights.

Of all the world title belts in existence today, it is only fitting that it is the WBC
crown that is at stake in this historic showdown.
