| Lawton: “You’re a step backwards for me, Amir” Werrington’s Scott Lawton came face to face with Amir Khan today at a press conference held in the council chamber of Nottingham City Council. The pair will meet in the ring at the city’s National Ice Arena on 6th October when Khan’s Commonwealth lightweight title may be on the line. During the conference Lawton, with his unique brand of child-like honesty, sent Khan onto the back foot when he declared that: “Amir is a step backwards for me. I see this fight as a stepping-stone to a re-match with Jon Thaxton. Thaxton is the best lightweight in the country and I want his British title.” Khan responded by suggesting that he was the biggest name in British boxing and therefore Lawton’s biggest fight to date.
