No chance.  Essentially that is what
former Middleweight champion Jermain
Taylor has been given in his rematch
against current top dog Kelly Pavlik.
Since besting future Hall of Famer
Bernard Hopkins twice and fighting
Winky Wright to a draw Taylor has seen
his stock plummet.  Fairly or not Taylor
has faced plenty of criticism.  He
defended his crown against blown up
Welterweights in Cory Spinks and
Kassim Ouma and to make matters
worse he was less than impressive in
doing so.

What a fight!  Fans saw straight up
action from start to finish.  Paul Williams
was punished early by Carlos Quintana
power shots before settling down and
out boxing the determined Quintana
during the middle rounds.  Just when it
appeared that Quintana may be fading,
under the pressure of the long
armed champion, he proceeded to
pound left hooks into Williams’ brow.
Quintana opened up cuts over both of
Williams’ eyes and Quintana
persistently targeted them.

Even though we are currently in a Boxing

exceptional fight, but can argue over who
won, unless of course there was a
knock out involved.

Last night, as the Main Event of HBO’s

unbeaten Paul “The Punisher” Williams

It was everything we hoped for and more
than we should have expected.  Israel
Vazquez and Rafael Marquez proved
once again to be incredible fighters and
true champions with yet another
amazing performance.

The perceived heavier hitter in Vazquez
hit the canvas and was visibly shaken
more than once and the slicker boxer in
Marquez appeared to be landing the
more solid shots.

boxing took place.  Broadcast live on
ESPN2 and promoted by Star Boxing the
show featured an intriguing
Welterweight match-up between a fairly
well established young fighter, Delvin

undefeated veteran in Troy Browning.

A bit of a crossroads fight for both men
with Rodriguez looking to reaffirm
himself as a viable prospect/contender
in the games hottest division and
Browning seeking a signature win to
legitimize his unbeaten record and
further his career which at 40 years old

In a lopsided victory Wladimir Klitschko
expectedly dominated the smaller,
lesser skilled Sultan Ibragimov.
Klitschko won decisively and collected

approach which Klitschko used against
Ibragimov frustrated the Madison Square

Andre Berto stops Michel Trabant;
Unbeaten Berto makes Trabant
quit on his stool
By: Phil Santos – Overhandright.com
Andre Berto continues to impress by
stopping Michel Trabant.  Trabant, who
had never been stopped, quit on his
stool following the conclusion of round
six.  Berto snapped off nasty body shots
and stinging jabs throughout all six
rounds befuddling Trabant who
consistently failed to let his hands go.
The punctuation of Berto’s attack
came in the 3rd round when Berto
scored numerous vicious uppercuts.

Taylor carried the speed advantage with

more consistent pressure and a rock

identical fight to his first meeting with
Taylor and although the knockout didn’t

Power Plus Potential;
What the Fists of Edison Miranda
are Loaded with
By: Phil Santos – Overhandright.com
There is nothing a fight fan respects
more than a warrior who gives
everything he has regardless of the
situation or who he is in with.  Guys like
Diego Corrales and Arturo Gatti are
admired for more than just their winning
records and epic battles.  It is their
unrelenting will to never give up no
matter how much the deck is stacked
against them.

There is no quit, no cruising to a
decision, no knowing when to say when
with Edison “Pantera” Miranda.  He
knows only one speed, he fights only
one way, and that is hard and fast
inspiring fear in opponents and awe
from spectators.

Interview with
Edison “Pantera” Miranda
By: Phil Santos – Overhandright.com
Edison Miranda – “I watched the last
Lacy fight and was not impressed at
all.  I also watched the Contender and
my feeling was the same about Bika.
These guys are simply not at my level.”

The once top rated Middleweight
contender now inhabits the Super
Middleweight division.  And make no
mistake about it he wants to fight the
best the division has to offer.  Here is
what Pantera had to say, enjoy.

PS:  Firstly congratulations on an
outstanding, sensational win over David
Banks.

Miranda:  Thank you very much.

PS:  Since becoming one of the top rated
Middleweights you recently made the
move up to Super Middleweight.  You
fought Allan Green at a catch weight of
162 before meeting Pavlik at 160.  When
did you realize that physically you could
no longer make the Middleweight limit?

Miranda:  I’ve always had trouble since I
was a big Middleweight, but in the Pavlik
fight my body would not lose the weight
no matter what I did.  I felt like I had an
obligation to the fans to fight that night,
but afterwards, I knew I had to consider
going to Super Middleweight.

Margarito had erased any doubt as to

only did Margarito drop Cintron four

previously perfect record, but he cast a

LOS ANGELES, March 25 – Truly one of
boxing’s young superstars, former world
lightweight champion Juan Diaz (33-1,
17 KO's) has thrilled fight fans for years
with his aggressive style and
willingness to take on all challengers.
Now, as Diaz gears up for his second
run at a world title, he has enlisted
GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS SIGNS JUAN DIAZ
Golden Boy Promotions to lead him to the biggest fights possible in the coming
years.

“I’m excited to be on the Golden Boy Promotions roster and I can’t wait to get
back in the ring with Oscar and his team behind me,” said the 24-year-old
“Baby Bull”.  “I’ve gained a lot of experience over the last couple of years, in and
out of the ring, and I can’t wait to prove to boxing fans that I’m the best
lightweight in the world.”

President of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar de la Hoya, continued “I don’t think
there’s a more exciting young fighter out there than Juan Diaz and I’m glad we’
re finally working together.  We’ve got big plans for Juan and we can’t wait to
start putting him into the mega fights he deserves to be in.”

“Pardon the pun, but Golden Boy Promotions is the “Gold Standard” when it
comes to boxing promotion and I’m confident that this is the only team that can
take Juan to where he needs to go in this sport,” said Willie Savannah, Juan
Diaz’ manager.  “I respect Oscar de la Hoya and Richard Schaefer a lot and
they’ve always been straight with me, something you don’t see too often in this
game.”

Although just 24-years-old, Diaz is a 34 fight veteran, winning 33 bouts since
turning pro in 2000, the Houston native made an immediate impact on the
boxing world with a relentless forward charge that always made for entertaining
fights.  In 2004, Diaz won the WBA Lightweight World Title with a 12 round
unanimous decision over Mongolian Lakva Sim.  After five successful
defenses, Diaz added the WBO belt to his trophy case with an eighth round
stoppage of Brazilian superstar Acelino Freitas in April of 2007.  Six months
after the Freitas victory, Diaz stopped Julio Diaz in nine rounds to add the IBF
Lightweight World Title and though he dropped a close split decision to Nate
Campbell in his last bout on March 8th, Diaz is gearing up for a big surge in the
second half of the year.

What makes all of these accomplishments in the ring even more impressive is
what Diaz has been doing outside the ring at the same time.  He is currently
studying to get his undergraduate degree at the University of Houston and will
start law school at the University of Houston in January of 2009.

Diaz’s first fight under the Golden Boy Promotions banner will be announced
shortly.
