| LEWKOWICZ DECLARES UNEQUIVOCALLY: “THERE WAS NO STEP ASIDE MONEY.” John Martinez - Boxing Realm (03AUG07) In my earlier interview with world renowned Sampson Lewkowicz, advisor and international match maker to a list of pugilists, including the WBO heavyweight champion Sultan Ibragimov, he offered insight into the how and why the clash between the current champ and former four time heavyweight champion of the world Evander Holyfield is taking place later this year. Upon reading some of the discussions that some fans were having in certain boxing chat forums as to the alleged “ step aside” incentive that might have been offered to WBA Ruslan Chagaev in order to make this fight with Holyfield, Lewkowicz and I spoke and he asked me to be his “ messenger to the world” on this issue and wanted to lay those rumors to rest once and for all. I of course accepted his request because for one, I do not believe whatsoever that such a transaction took place and two, Lewkowicz very rarely speaks directly to the press. “ There was no step aside money. The biggest loser in all of this is both Universum Promotions for losing out on millions and millions of dollars and of course more importantly, Chagaev. Chagaev will not be able to fight for the unification and he is extremely disappointed. In addition, he too will lose out on a lot of money.” As for the outcome of the fight regarding Evander Holyfield, Mr. Lewkowicz would like to explain that should “ Holyfield lose, then I would advise him to retire then, but if he wins, then he will go on to fight for some of the biggest money.” Mr. Lewkowicz and I hope that this answers any and all questions regarding the few “posts” that have seized on this conspiracy theory. |
