| Jean Pascal moves to 21-0 (14) by scoring a UD victory over a game Omar Pittman. The fight began slowly with lots of swings and misses but with Pascal securely in control. With the exception of an off balance slip up, that could have been scored a knockdown; Pascal was cruising winning the first six rounds with relative ease. He had Pittman down in the second, courtesy of a sharp left hook, and he overwhelmed his lesser talented opponent with superior speed and movement. As the 6th round neared its conclusion Pascal held out his arms and taunted Pittman to fight, a move he would soon regret. In the 7th round Pittman smashed Pascal with a right hand, left hook combo that left him wobbly and doing his best to survive the round. Luckily for Pascal, Omar Pittman is not a highly skilled fighter and he just couldn’t find a way to finish. Pascal regained his composure in the 8th; although he was still shaky, and got back to out boxing the over matched Pittman. In studio with ESPN’s Brian Kenney, top rated Super Middleweight, Allan Green gave his take on Jean Pascal stating “Jean Pascal should be locked up for impersonating a fighter”. Green did have more respect for Miranda saying only that the physically gifted Miranda had improvements to make technically. |

| Maybe it’s due to the physicality of the sport, or the manner in which fighters are beaten between the ropes, whatever it is one loss in boxing can be more damaging to an athlete than in any other sport. If Roger Federer drops a match he was heavily favored to win, or Tiger Woods fails to win a tournament that everyone knows he should have, sports fans collectively assume that these highly skilled pros will resume their winning ways the very next chance they get. Whether it’s an individual or team sport a loss is simply viewed as a bump in the road, something to learn from, after all nobody is perfect right? In fact often times a loss is viewed as beneficial to a team or individuals’ growth and the rectification of flaws can help strengthen prior short comings. Read the Full Story..... |
| After reading all the brouhaha and alleged facts spread by the supposed insiders regarding the IBF/WBA, and as of now, WBO undefeated lightweight champion Juan “ Baby Bull” Diaz’s cancelled fight with the promising brawler Michael Katsidis I decided to ask the one man who would definitely know what happened or for that matter what did not happen. His name- Willie Savannah. Willie, manager to the undefeated volume punching Diaz, was more than willing to give his thoughts on the matter and I of course was all to ready to lend my ear for the cause. | TOTOWA, NJ (January 15, 2008) – IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron has been told by his doctor— Reading , PA orthopedic surgeon Dr. R. Scott Cook—that he may resume “full training in a week to 10 days”, it was announced today by Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. In November Cook diagnosed Cintron with severe ligament damage in his right hand following the champion’s Nov 23 title-defending victory over Jesse Feliciano (TKO 10). In a statement today Dr. Cook said, “This week Kermit will begin hitting the speed bag. He is up to speed where he should be and is healing well.” “We are in the early stages of finding a Kermit opponent for April,” said Duva. Cintron (29-1, 27 KO’s) injured his right hand in the first round of his bout against Ferguson . Despite the intense pain—which Cintron made evident when he dropped to the canvas following the bout—the champion battled on for 10 rounds before stopping the granite- chinned Feliciano with a two-fisted barrage at the 1:53 mark of round 10. |
| The World Boxing Council donated today the amount of $10,000 ( U.S. ) to the family of the South Korean boxer Yosam Choi, who recently passed away. The decision to make this donation originated with the fact that Yosam Choi was light flyweight world champion recognized by the WBC, and as a way to pay homage to his memory. Choi passed away on January 2, 2008, after going into a coma after the fight in which he defeated Heri Amol by points; another organization´s regional title was on the line in the bout. |

Live from Madison Square Garden and televised on HBO Pay-Per-View Roy Jones Jr. and Felix Trinidad put their respective legacies on the line. History will always remember these two boxing immortals as winners, tonight however only one man would emerge victorious. This was a fight that Felix Trinidad simply could not win. Everything that mattered within the squared circle pointed to a Roy Jones victory. He was bigger, stronger, faster and fresher. End of story. The question that remained was just how it would happen. Would Jones put Tito to sleep? Would he box circles around Trinidad, mimicking Winky Wright, en route to an easy decision? | The fight began slowly with David Banks doing what he needed to be effective against such a heavy hitter like Edison Miranda. Banks kept moving, circling to his right, in order to avoid Miranda’s a big right hand. I saw the 1st round to be even with neither man scoring very effectively. | TOTOWA, NJ (January 16, 2008) – Main Events has signed world-ranked cruiserweight contender and former WBC light heavyweight champion Tomasz Adamek, it was announced today by Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. Main Events and Warrior Promotions (promoter of O’ Neil Bell) have begun negotiations for a spring IBF-eliminator showdown between Adamek and Bell . The winner would become the mandatory to IBF champion Steve Cunningham. “Main Events is proud to sign Tomasz,” said Duva. “He is a former light heavyweight champion and soon to be world cruiserweight champion.” Adamek (33-1, 22 KO’s) has stopped 15 opponents within the first three rounds. The 31-year-old Zywiec , Poland native captured the vacant WBC light heavyweight championship on May 21, 2005, when he decisioned Paul Briggs (W 12). He defended the title twice before losing to Chad Dawson on Feb 3, 2007 (L 12). Since moving to cruiserweight he is 2-0, 1 KO. Adamek is also the IBO Cruiserweight Champion and is ranked #6 in the IBF and #7 in the WBA. Main Events and Ziggy Promotions will co-promote Adamek. |

"The tennis balls are for slipping punches, so I don't get hit with the punches I got hit with in the fight. As far as the tire, it gives you muscle and endurance. | Edison Miranda – “I watched the last Lacy fight and was not impressed at all. I also watched the Contender and my feeling was the same about Bika. These guys are simply not at my level.” I caught up with the punishing power puncher Edison Miranda following his sensational knockout of David Banks on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights. As always Miranda pulled no punches, so to speak, as he gave me his take on a second fight with Pavlik, his thoughts on Jeff Lacy and Sakio Bika and what a typical day of training entails. The once top rated Middleweight contender now inhabits the Super Middleweight division. And make no mistake about it he wants to fight the best the division has to offer. | In a controlled early going Jermain Taylor found success with his jab in between the busier Kelly Pavlik’s attack. Taylor carried the speed advantage with him to 166 lbs but it was Pavlik with more consistent pressure and a rock solid approach. Pavlik fought nearly an identical fight to his first meeting with Taylor and although the knockout didn’t come, his game plan prevailed. He kept Taylor moving backwards and applied the type of smothering pressure that made it difficult for Taylor to mount a suitable offense. To Jermain Taylor’s credit his back never touched the ropes until the end of the 11th round and he put up enough resistance in the opening rounds to warrant a drama filled end to the fight. Even at 166 Taylor didn’t have sufficient stamina to maintain an assault that could stifle Pavlik’s charge much less move him back. The former champion stung Pavlik repeatedly with his left jab however despite a bloodied nose Pavlik walked right through it. The final scores were somewhat surprising considering the good work that Taylor was able to do early on. The flip side is that even during the rounds where Taylor had success it was in spots, whereas Pavlik dealt in volume and in turn landed as many shots as Taylor even though he often threw more to accomplish it. Kelly Pavlik sealed the deal by closing the door on the Jermain Taylor era. Much like Taylor did to Hopkins, Pavlik now stands alone as the sole heir to the Middleweight throne. It is hard to imagine any of the current Middleweight crop, Abraham or Strum included, giving Pavlik a more serious contest than Jermain Taylor or Edison Miranda before him were able to. For Taylor the future is now in question. Naturally he expressed disappointment following a fight that he felt was close or that he had possibly won. A stint at Super Middleweight could be interesting with names like Calzaghe and Kessler heading the class. Much less likely would be a return to Middleweight where he would be cast as contender unless someone could topple the current champ. Taylor showed he could battle and gave Pavlik some trouble and perhaps that was enough to merit a continuation of a very solid career. I would be shocked to see Taylor hang up the gloves although there were whispers while he was a young champion that he had accomplished his goals and he felt set for life financially. Is this the end for Jermain Taylor? I doubt it. I saw a very close fight with Pavlik edging Taylor out mostly on work rate and steady aggression by a score of 115-114 with the 5th round being even. The judges couldn’t disagree more with scores of 117-111, 115-113 and 116-112. |
