Fighters who lost their “0” in 2007: Who Bounces Back and who Falls Flat in 08” By: Phil Santos – Overhandright.com
Maybe it’s due to the physicality of the sport, or the manner in which fighters are beaten between the ropes, whatever it is one loss in boxing can be more damaging to an athlete than in any other sport. If Roger Federer drops a match he was heavily favored to win, or Tiger Woods fails to win a tournament that everyone knows he should have, sports fans collectively assume that these highly skilled pros will resume their winning ways the very next chance they get. Whether it’s an individual or team sport a loss is simply viewed as a bump in the road, something to learn from, after all nobody is perfect right? In fact often times a loss is viewed as beneficial to a team or individuals’ growth and the rectification of flaws can help strengthen prior short comings. Read the Full Story.....
After reading all the brouhaha and alleged facts spread by the supposed insiders regarding the IBF/WBA, and as of now, WBO undefeated lightweight champion Juan “ Baby Bull” Diaz’s cancelled fight with the promising brawler Michael Katsidis I decided to ask the one man who would definitely know what happened or for that matter what did not happen. His name- Willie Savannah. Willie, manager to the undefeated volume punching Diaz, was more than willing to give his thoughts on the matter and I of course was all to ready to lend my ear for the cause. Savannah was adamant that the fight with Katsidis was the only reason why Team Diaz signed a one-fight extension with Don King. Read the Full Interview.....

Power Plus Potential; What the Fists of Edison Miranda are Loaded with By: Phil Santos – Overhandright.com
There is nothing a fight fan respects more than a warrior who gives everything he has regardless of the situation or who he is in with. Guys like Diego Corrales and Arturo Gatti are admired for more than just their winning records and epic battles. It is their unrelenting will to never give up no matter how much the deck is stacked against them. There is no quit, no cruising to a decision, no knowing when to say when with Edison “Pantera” Miranda. He knows only one speed, he fights only one way, and that is hard and fast inspiring fear in opponents and awe from spectators. Read the Full Story.....

Pantera Back with a Bang; Miranda blasts Banks through the Ropes By: Phil Santos – Overhandright.com
The fight began slowly with David Banks doing what he needed to be effective against such a heavy hitter like Edison Miranda. Banks kept moving, circling to his right, in order to avoid Miranda’s a big right hand. I saw the 1st round to be even with neither man scoring very effectively. No surprise there given the vastly contrasting styles these two brought to the ring. Read the Full Story.....

Interview with Edison “Pantera” Miranda By: Phil Santos – Overhandright.com

Edison Miranda – “I watched the last Lacy fight and was not impressed at all. I also watched the Contender and my feeling was the same about Bika. These guys are simply not at my level.” I caught up with the punishing power puncher Edison Miranda following his sensational knockout of David Banks on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights. As always Miranda pulled no punches, so to speak, as he gave me his take on a second fight with Pavlik, his thoughts on Jeff Lacy and Sakio Bika and what a typical day of training entails. The once top rated Middleweight contender now inhabits the Super Middleweight division. And make no mistake about it he wants to fight the best the division has to offer. Here is what Pantera had to say, enjoy. PS: Firstly congratulations on an outstanding, sensational win over David Banks. Miranda: Thank you very much. PS: Since becoming one of the top rated Middleweights you recently made the move up to Super Middleweight. You fought Allan Green at a catch weight of 162 before meeting Pavlik at 160. When did you realize that physically you could no longer make the Middleweight limit? Miranda: I’ve always had trouble since I was a big Middleweight, but in the Pavlik fight my body would not lose the weight no matter what I did. I felt like I had an obligation to the fans to fight that night, but afterwards, I knew I had to consider going to Super Middleweight. Read the Full Interview.....

| HINCKLEY, Minn. (Feb. 1, 2008) – It was a cold night in Minnesota , but there were two action packed, sizzling fights on Friday night’s ShoBox: The New Generation. | When they first met Antonio Margarito was already an established champion with four title defenses on his résumé. Kermit Cintron was an undefeated up and comer with 23 knockouts in 24 fights as a pro. Although Margarito held an edge in experience and quality opponents faced it was Cintron who appeared to be the future. Five rounds and four knockdowns later Margarito had erased any doubt as to who the preeminent fighter was. Not only did Margarito drop Cintron four times, and add a serious blemish to his previously perfect record, but he cast a shadow of doubt over the future of the once prized prospect. Since suffering his first, and only, career loss at the hands of Antonio Margarito in 2005, Kermit Cintron has bounced back by rattling off five consecutive victories. Impressively all five wins came by way of knockout and more importantly during that same stretch Cintron captured the vacant IBF title by stopping Mark Suarez. Read the Full Story..... |

No chance. Essentially that is what former Middleweight champion Jermain Taylor has been given in his rematch against current top dog Kelly Pavlik. Since besting future Hall of Famer Bernard Hopkins twice and fighting Winky Wright to a draw Taylor has seen his stock plummet. Fairly or not Taylor has faced plenty of criticism. He defended his crown against blown up Welterweights in Cory Spinks and Kassim Ouma and to make matters worse he was less than impressive in doing so. Read the Full Story.....
Andre Berto stops Michel Trabant; Unbeaten Berto makes Trabant quit on his stool By: Phil Santos – Overhandright.com
Andre Berto continues to impress by stopping Michel Trabant. Trabant, who had never been stopped, quit on his stool following the conclusion of round six. Berto snapped off nasty body shots and stinging jabs throughout all six rounds befuddling Trabant who consistently failed to let his hands go. The punctuation of Berto’s attack came in the 3rd round when Berto scored numerous vicious uppercuts. It became clear early as to why Trabant had never previously been knocked out. His chin was sturdy but unfortunately for him that was the only positive asset that he brought to the ring with him. Trabant had no answers and Berto simply punished him. Read the Full Story.....

One day before Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez renew their rivalry on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, America’s No. 1 Fight Network will hit you with one of the most anticipated ShoBox: The New Generation fight cards of the year when IBF featherweight champion and ShoBox alum, Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (21-1-1, 1 ND, 14 KOs), defends against Jason “The American Boy” Litzau (23-1, 19 KOs) live on SHOWTIME (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast). The doubleheader, promoted by Goossen Tutor Promotions, LLC, will emanate from Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino in Lemoore, Calif. The ShoBox opening bout will feature a 10-round rematch between heavyweights T.J. “Top Dog” Wilson (12-1, eight KOs), and Travis “Freight Train” Walker (26-1-1, 20 KOs). Wilson dealt Walker his lone defeat on Oct. 19, 2007, on ShoBox when he scored a controversial, dramatic 15-second, first-round knockout. Moments after the opening bell, Wilson backed Walker into a corner and began delivering punches with both hands. At least a couple connected solidly and seemed to stun Walker, who did not attempt to retaliate, or even raise a glove. He didn’t land a punch. Seconds later, the referee waved off the fight. NOTE: WEIGHTS – Guerrero weighed 126 pounds, Litzau 125 at Thursday’s weigh-in; Wilson weighed 264, Walker 236. ROBERT GUERRERO “Training camp has been great. I made the weight much easier for this fight compared to others in the past. I will remain at 126 pounds for a few more fights. “I feel really good right now; actually, it’s the best I've ever felt before a fight in a long time. “Litzau is a very tough opponent. Knowing that he's going to be fighting in his first world title bout, I know he's coming to fight. (But) Whatever style he brings I'll have a game plan to counter it. “Right now my wife is in remission with her cancer. With all the prayers and support from family and friends, I'm extremely grateful for all the love. I'm truly blessed to have such great support. I also want to acknowledge my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Without God, I'm nothing. “With my dad back in the corner I feel really comfortable and confident that together we will be victorious. He was the first person to lace me up with a pair of boxing gloves and he's the right person for me to guide my corner. “I expect Litzau to be real cautious in this fight. He'll probably try to box and use the ring to his advantage. I don’t think he wants to stand in the pocket and exchange with me. “The Tachi Palace is a great, fun place to fight and it's a sold out crowd, who will be live and full of energy. I have a ton of Bay Area fans coming to see me. I love it and can’t wait to get in the ring. "It’s exciting to be fighting on SHOWTIME again. No doubt this is the network where I shine best. I'm truly appreciative for the opportunity that SHOWTIME has continued to give me. I want to show all the fans as well as the executives that I'm a TV type of fighter, the kind of fighter everyone can appreciate.’’ JASON LITZAU “Boxing’s a gamble but I’m ready to ramble. “This is the dream, to win a world title, and I am as prepared as I can be. I am going to leave it all in the ring Friday night. I am prepared for a war but that doesn’t mean I am going to just come out throwing bombs and fighting stupidly. I have a back-up plan. “I have overcome a lot in my life, but I have made it this far. It’s been a struggle, but things happen for a reason and now my opportunity is here. This is a chance to make my live and the lives of those closest to me and around me a lot better. The thing is, I am so calm right now. “I have believed my whole life that things would work out, and this is the chance to make it happen. “I am ready for anything Guerrero brings. I know he fights dirty, but I have trained with some pretty dirty guys myself. That kind of stuff, though, I leave to the referee to handle. That’s his job. “I’m just in to do my job, which is to win. “Working with Buddy (McGirt) has been great. He has taught me a lot. He has made me smarter and more open-minded. I have sacrificed. I am dedicated. Friday is going to be a great night.’’
ROBERT GUERRERO & JASON LITZAU, T.J. WILSON & TRAVIS WALKER FINAL QUOTES AND WEIGHTS Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino, Lemoore, California “SHOBOX: THE NEW GENERATION’’ Friday, Feb. 29, 2008; Telecast Begins at 11 p.m. ET/PT Photos: Daisy Rosas/For Showtime

T.J. WILSON “Nobody expected me to win the last fight. They thought I was fat and heavy and couldn’t fight. So, when I did win, the way I did, no one believed it. Even after looking at the tapes. “So, now, I have to do it again so maybe then everyone will believe what they saw the first time. “I thought I proved myself already but now I have to prove myself again. “Believe me, if the roles were reversed, there would not be a rematch. But all he did was make excuses after the last fight and make like a crybaby. There are no excuses, however, for the punches he took. “Everyone will see Friday that our first fight was not a fluke. What a lot of people don’t know about me is that I always was an excellent amateur boxer. I have fought better guys than he has. “It’s a little aggravating, the lack of respect I’m getting. For this fight, they even made the ring bigger, which I guess they think will him help him. But what’s up with that? “I’m going to jump on him again. I’m in better shape. Whether it goes 10 seconds, or 10 rounds, I am ready to go.’’ TRAVIS WALKER “I do not think of that last fight as a loss, but as a lesson learned. I now know never to make it even close to getting myself into a spot that puts a decision in the referee’s hands. “That last fight, the first round, was going to be a feeling out round for me. I knew he would come out fast because he wasn’t in good shape and would be gassed after a round or two. I allowed what happened to happen. He wasn’t hurting me at all. I’d rather get knocked cold than have a fight stopped like that. “For the referee to just step in and stop it was wrong and it took me a little time to get over exactly what he did. But when I got home, my family and closest friends really rallied around me. They saw what happened to me. And, that, for me was huge. I found out who my true friends were. “I don’t know what to expect from him this time, but I guarantee everybody that I will not touch the ropes. I am really excited about this fight and appearing again on SHOWTIME.’’
