Jesse "El Rayo" Feliciano Interview 4-18-08 By: Phil Santos - Overhandright.com
Jessie Feliciano returns to action on Apirl 25th when he faces Andrey Tsurkan on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights. This will be Feliciano's first fight since losing a hard fought battle to former title holder Kermit Cintron. As has been the case throughout his entire career Feliciano will take on another tough opponent. Feliciano, 15-6-3 (9), takes on former NABF champion Andrey Tsurkan 25-3 (16), in another do or die fight in a career that's been filled with highs and lows. I spoke to Jesse about a week before their fight would take place. Here is what he had to say. Enjoy -
Jesse Feliciano Record: 15-6-3 (9) Age: 25 Significant Win(s): Vince Phillips, Delvin Rodriguez
Andrey Tsurkan Record: 25-3 (16) Age: 30 Significant Win(s): Hector Camacho Jr.
His name still holds weight. He was once a solid champion who possessed three World Titles (WBC, WBA & IBF) and was widely considered to be the best Welterweight on the planet. Those days seem like a distant memory. Since losing to Carlos Baldomir the once “Super” Zab Judah has been recast as a marquee name no longer capable of beating the top fighters in his weight class. Much like the man he accompanied to the ring as a youngster Judah’s future as a fighter seems to closely mirror that of Mike Tyson. Now before I get too far ahead of myself I want to make myself clear. It is my opinion that Zab is still a solid top ten Welterweight, a claim that at the end could not be made by Iron Mike. It is also apparent that Judah wishes to continue fighting

This past Saturday, Frank Maloney Promotions enjoyed a successful partnership with Golden Boy Promotions and Punch Promotions to put on the largest boxing card in British history as 58,000 fans packed the City of Manchester Stadium to witness the Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Lazcano bill. For Frank Maloney, it was a crowning achievement to have had his firm organize, with support from Golden Boy and Punch Promotions, such a massive event and have everything, from start to finish, run so smoothly. But it was the fans that truly benefited from seeing their favorite son, Ricky Hatton, triumphantly return to his native city after a three year absence to sell-out the home of his beloved Manchester City football club. The purse bid is scheduled for Tuesday, May 27. “I don’t know why Nate is considering fighting Casamayor,” said Guzman, who is exclusively promoted by San Diego-based Sycuan Ringside Promotions. “I think he’s afraid of me. I’ll make Nate look so bad that he’ll retire after I wipe the floor with him. “I guess I can understand why Nate doesn’t want to fight me. Twenty-eight boxers have tried to beat me and none of them came close to succeeding. “I honestly thought Nate was a serious fighter, but I’m starting to question that. If Nate wants a real challenge, he knows where to find me.”
